Queens and Nucleus Colonies
At Beekeeping Innovations Ltd., we raise and sell high-quality queens and nucleus colonies (nucs) right here in Alberta using our innovative Bee Cube® system.
Our mission is simple: provide beekeepers with hardy, locally adapted bees that are ready to thrive.
Locally Raised Queens
Our queens are bred and mated inside Bee Cubes®, giving them:

-
Strong genetics for productivity and resilience
-
Local adaptability to Alberta’s climate
-
Proven laying patterns to build strong colonies
Queens are generally available from June through August, when mating conditions are optimal.
In 2025, we successfully produced several hundred mated queens with the help of queen-rearing experts Natalia and Nazar Pukshyn, who brought their deep experience from Ukraine and Poland to our Alberta operations. Most queens were used in our own colonies, but many went to Alberta beekeepers who gave excellent feedback on performance and reliability.

Healthy Nucleus Colonies
A nuc is the starting point for every productive hive. Our nucs include:

-
A young, locally bred queen
-
Drawn comb and brood at all stages
-
Food stores and balanced worker populations
Nucs are produced in the spring build-up (May–June), timed to meet beekeeper demand when colonies are expanding for honey production. This ensures you start the season strong, with colonies ready to grow.
Proven in Our Bee Cubes®
Everything we sell is produced in our Bee Cubes®. This insulated, climate-controlled platform allows us to rear queens and build nucs consistently and at scale. With our proven success, the Bee Cube® has become more than just a hive system — it’s a production platform for bee propagation.

Learn and Scale With Us
We’re proud to supply queens and nucs — but we also help beekeepers become producers themselves. By purchasing a Bee Cube®, you gain access to the same system we use, giving you the tools to rear your own queens and produce nucs as part of your operation or as an additional revenue stream.
